NUMBER PORTABILITY - MTN BIGGEST LOSER, ETISALAT BIGGEST WINNER.

WHAT AN IRONY!

According to Nigerian Communications Commission;
MTN has taken a big hit by recording 49 percent of overall subscribers that have switched service providers under the recently introduced Mobile Number Portability (MNP) scheme, according to figures released recently by the NCC. While Etisalat on the other hand emerged winner as it recorded the biggest gain with 44 percent in the first month of porting, according to Technology Times, an online ICT publication.
Isn't this truly ironic, especially after the whole "Saka don port" campaign by MTN. Their game plan was to eliminate the competition by taking their gold. Even if you want to eliminate your competition, at least it wouldn't hurt to improve your network naa ... abi?!
People be dancing to " my number don dey portable..." music and ad of Saka and be porting to Etisalat. I am sure some MTN employees even ported to etisalat. (lol)
Etisalat through it all, stayed calm. Its all good tho, it leaves room for more competition and for service providers to improve their network services.
Globacom followed MTN by recording losses of 23 percent; Airtel Nigeria followed by overall losses of 17 percent while Etisalat came last on the losers table with 11 percent for May figures, according to all Africa.
